Stunning Sunrise Elopement in Joshua Tree National Park
It is no secret that golden hour in the desert of Joshua Tree, California is absolutely stunning. Many opt for sunsets here, but sunrise holds almost a sacred peace to it. Imagine driving into the park while it’s still dark, barely being able to make out the shapes of the world around you, and arriving at your destination as the sky starts to get its first hint of light, illuminating the other-worldly trees and magnificent boulder stacks that dot this landscape. The sky turns a soft cotton-candy pink as you step out to see each other in your wedding outfits for the first time. That is exactly what Sohee and Duke experienced on their elopement day in Joshua Tree National Park.
With no one else around except each other, they shared an emotional first look along a trail, as the pink sky turned brighter and brighter by the minute. Following their first look, they exchanged private vows at sunrise, as the boulder stacks surrounding them and tips of mountains in the distance turned a bright orange as they caught the first rays of sun. As they concluded their private vows, the sun peeked over the boulders and bathed us all in a warm, orange glow. I get goosebumps thinking about it now. It was so special to witness and experience, especially when it felt like we were the only ones in the world at that very moment.
It was an absolutely gorgeous morning as we explored the park together and headed to Arch & Heart Rock for a hike and more portraits. The brisk morning cold was replaced very quickly by heat as the sun rose higher and higher, but that didn’t stop Sohee & Duke from making the hike out to Heart Rock in their wedding attire - arguably the best dressed on the trail that morning!
We ended the day back at their airbnb where Sohee changed into an elegant Korean hanbok and whipped up a DELICIOUS lunch (that I still think about to this day!). We cut cake, lazed about their airbnb, and chatted about their day and how they had thoroughly enjoyed it - no outside pressure, no drama, just them doing everything they wanted in a way that truly honored their relationship.
